what is a psychoeducational evaluation?

It can be incredibly frustrating to watch your child struggle in school. The first step to helping a child thrive in school is to understand their individual strengths and weaknesses as a learner.

A psychoeducational assessment is an evaluation in which in a child's learning and development are explored to identify the child's strengths and weaknesses. The goal is to enhance everyone's ability to help the child be as successful as possible.

Psychoeducational assessments help educators, parents, and students better understand how the child learns and processes information. This can inform what interventions, accommodations, and support will be most helpful for your child.

what is an individual educational assessment (IEE)?

As a parent of a child with a disability, if you do not agree with the results of the individualized evaluation of your child, as conducted by the school system, you have the right to obtain what is known as an Independent Educational Evaluation, or an IEE. This means that you may ask that a professional, competent evaluator who is not employed by the school system conduct another evaluation of your child.
